High positions in each Clan are chosen out-of-character by Oakley. She may consult the players of leaders and medicine cats for deputies and medicine cat apprentices, respectively.
When a high position is open, members will be asked to propose a character that is already in play for the position. Warriors can become deputies. Warriors, apprentices, and kits can become medicine cat apprentices. A thread regarding the open position will contain more information.
High-ranking characters must either retire or die after holding their position for one year in real life. Players are free to retire or kill their characters ahead of time.
Members may play two high positions: one leadership position and one healer position.
If you are looking for a high position, here are some things that we look for:
1. Activity: Naturally, we want someone who has the time and energy to keep up with site events, roleplay threads, and high position duties (ceremonies, caring for the sick and injured, etc.). We don't expect constant activity at all times of the year, but if all you can manage is a single post every few months, a high position isn't the best fit for you.
2. OOC behavior: We don't want our high position players to be pushy, rude, impatient, or bossy. While those traits are fine in-character, the people who play high positions are large representatives of the roleplay, so it's important that those who roleplay characters in positions of power are decent people out-of-character.
3. Character qualifications: Generally a fourteen-moon-old deputy isn't going to fly. Young deputies lack the experience needed to lead. A deputy-to-be should have trained at least one apprentice. While this isn't a hard requirement, we do take these things into consideration.
4. Character personality: We want conflict. We want leaders who rub each other the wrong way and we want characters who will argue and lead their warriors into battle. We want interesting medicine cats who don't fall into stereotypes ("the grouchy one", "the sweet one who wouldn't hurt a fly", etc.). We want characters with pros and cons that mesh well together and actively influence the roleplay.
5. Writing abilities: This is a relaxed roleplay forum for people who enjoy writing. Everyone makes mistakes, but you should know the difference between "rogue" and "rouge", and you should know that commas have their place in writing.
In the event that both a leader and a deputy go inactive at the same time, players will be invited to submit warriors that are suitable for either position, and one character for each position will be selected from the pool.
We do not set any hard-and-fast rules regarding high position activity; instead, we'll check in every now and then to ensure that all of the high positions are being played fairly regularly. Additionally, we have StarClan accounts set up if leaders are inactive or are in the process of being replaced.
