Rabbit after rabbit escaped from Jaystar's grasp. From judging a leap's distance incorrectly to missing the mark with a bite, everything that could go wrong did.
He needed a hunting partner. Fear fogged Jaystar's brain, and he meandered out of camp without considering that he should bring another warrior with him. Don't lose your mind now, he told himself. He leaped atop a boulder and looked over the moors that he, and many others, called home. His ears swiveled and his nose twitched, searching for signs of another cat. Clouds blanketed the sky, threatening rain. Looks like I won't be able to hunt for much longer, Jaystar thought.

Rain was on the wind, and Ferretpaw knew what that meant. It was time to get out of the tunnels. Every tunneler knew the dangers of the tunnels when the earth was wet. Sure, it made it easier to dig, but it also made cave-ins and mudslides far more likely. Any tunneler who chose to stay in a tunnel when they'd been told rain was on the way had a death wish. Or was very, very determined. Now Ferretpaw considered herself a determined cat but she wasn't stupid. And so the muddy molly made her way to the surface, whiskers twitching and mouth slightly ajar to catch scents.
The scent that she caught when she reached the surface surprised her. Jaystar..? What was he doing out here all alone? Ferretpaw tilted her head. She was out alone too, but that was just because she'd wanted to do some generally safe tunnel touch-ups near the entrance of this particular tunnel. Nothing where she had to go too deep- again, she wasn't stupid. She knew better than to actually tunnel without a partner. She was just shoring up the entrance roof and clearing out some rocks. That explained what she was doing, but not what Jaystar was doing.
"Hello Jaystar, what brings you to these parts alone?" with their numbers so low, it just was dangerous for moor runners to be out and about on their lonesome as it was for tunnelers. It made her worry for the gray tom.

Hi! Next time, please wait for your application to be accepted before you start roleplaying.
Jaystar's ear twitched at the sound of another voice. He turned to face Ferretpaw, all by herself it seemed, and his tail lashed. "I should be the one asking that question. Apprentices shouldn't be out on their own as it is, much less those training to be tunnelers," he said. His expression hardened and he hoped his point came across.
The gray tabby leaped down from the rock and flicked his tail-tip, a sign that the apprentice should follow. "Disregard whatever task you were on. We're hunting rabbits now."
Regardless of her specialized underground training, Ferretpaw needed to be capable of catching prey on the surface. The Clan would starve if everyone focused on one thing, and Jaystar couldn't very well have that, could he?
An overwhelming scent blasted Jaystar's nose, and his mouth watered a bit: Rabbit. A whole nest of them, at least.
He crouched and skirted the area, following the scent until he could barely smell the nest. He stopped there, waiting for a rabbit to come by.
The fluffy creatures would relocate if WindClan hunted too close to their nest, but being fairly far away, they had the advantage of being able to re-route the rabbits to go wherever they wanted them.
Just then, one hopped into view. Jaystar stiffened, his muscles ready, but he waited for Ferretpaw to make the first move.

Ferretpaw had to resist a wince at Jaystar's scolding. She'd just wanted to help... But she understood. It was a dangerous life, being a tunneler. He just didn't want her to get hurt. She admired him for that- always caring about all of his clanmates and doing his leaderly duties... She kept her gaze even and gave a tight nod. "I understand Jaystar. It won't happen again." she meowed, only breaking her gaze when she'd finished speaking to look down at her paws guiltily.
The last thing she'd expected was to be rewarded for this. But now... she got to hunt rabbits with the leader? Her eyes turned to blue moons. R-really? "Yes Jaystar!" she meowed, trying to keep the pure excitement out of her voice. He flicked his tail and Ferretpaw took it as a sign to follow immediately. She padded along behind her leader, a smile on her face. They wouldn't be able to catch much before the rains came but hopefully, they could make at least one catch. She wasn't the fastest apprentice out there, nor the best at hunting. In fact, she and her mentor rarely focused on the task. But she had strong claws. That had to count for something.
It wasn't long before they caught wind of rabbits. Ferretpaw had been walking with her mouth open and the scent hit her like a badger. She looked ahead to Jaystar and he'd noticed it too if his body language was any indicator. Ferretpaw dropped low, hiding among the tall grasses. Her brown fur blended in well with her surroundings, and for that the apprentice was thankful. Ferretpaw began to pad around the area, going in the opposite direction of Jaystar and circling around. This was an important part of Windclan culture- Teamwork. Catching rabbits on your own was hard, but when you had someone else there to spook it in your direction they would run right into your paws.
Ah- there was one! Ferretpaw narrowed her eyes and tensed her body. A fat, healthy rabbit. Soft gray-brown fur, a twitchy little nose, and a tasty belly. Through the grass, she tried to make eye contact with Jaystar, but he was too far away. Still, she knew where he was, and if she was right... She would be making a good choice here.
In a flash, Ferretpaw was darting through the grass. The rabbit, startled, ran straight in Jaystar's direction. Yes! Ferretpaw pulled forward, putting all her strength into her legs as she attempted to close off other routes of escape. She wasn't the fastest cat in the clan- that was obvious. But if this teamwork worked out it wouldn't even matter.
